THE WHOO: frequently asked questions
What is The History of Whoo?
The History of Whoo, now THE WHOO, is a luxury Korean skincare brand launched in 2003 by LG H&H (LG Household & Health Care). It draws on the beauty secrets of the Korean royal court and the hanbang herbal tradition, reworked through the group's research. Its best-known lines are Bichup, Cheongidan, Gongjinhyang and Jinyulhyang.
Is THE WHOO the same as The History of Whoo?
Yes. The brand launched in 2003 as “The History of 后” (The History of Whoo). In 2023, LG H&H shortened the name to THE WHOO and kept the 后 character on the packaging. You'll find the full selection on the THE WHOO page at Ma Petite Coree.
What is the best-seller of The History of Whoo?
THE WHOO's most iconic product is the Bichup Self-Generating essence: launched in 2009, it has sold over 10 million bottles, according to LG H&H. At Ma Petite Coree it's listed as THE WHOO Bicheop Seft-Growing Essence 50ml. The THE WHOO Cheongidan Hwahyun Radiance Cream 60ml is the brand's other big classic.
What are the benefits of THE WHOO Cheongidan?
Cheongidan is THE WHOO's radiance and anti-aging line. Launched in 2010 and renewed in 2023, it now features Chlorogen™, a radiance active developed by LG H&H, in its latest formulas. Start with the THE WHOO Cheongidan Hwahyun Radiance Cream 60ml and the THE WHOO Cheongidan Hwahyun Radiance Eye Cream 20ml.
What's the difference between Cheongidan, Gongjinhyang and Jinyulhyang?
At THE WHOO, Cheongidan focuses on radiance and signs of aging. Gongjinhyang is about firmness, thanks to Gong Jin Solution™. Jinyulhyang pairs red wild ginseng with hydration and care for fine lines, as in the THE WHOO Jin Yul Hyang Anti-Wrinkle Enriching Cream 50ml.
What age group is THE WHOO for?
THE WHOO doesn't set an age, but most of its lines are anti-aging skincare made with mature skin in mind: firmness with Gongjinhyang, fine lines with Jinyulhyang, radiance with Cheongidan. For a first THE WHOO routine, Gongjinhyang, for example the THE WHOO Gongjinhyang Moisture Balancing Toner 150ml, is an easy way in.
Which THE WHOO products suit dry skin?
For dry skin, go for THE WHOO's richer textures: the THE WHOO Jin Yul Hyang Anti-Wrinkle Enriching Cream 50ml from Jinyulhyang, or the THE WHOO Cheongidan Hwahyun Radiance Cream 60ml if you also want more glow. Finish with the THE WHOO Whoo Spa Body Cream 200ml for your body.
Is Gongjinhyang good for sensitive skin?
THE WHOO doesn't have a line dedicated to sensitive skin. If your skin reacts easily, add one THE WHOO product at a time, such as the THE WHOO Gongjinhyang Moisture Balancing Toner 150ml or the THE WHOO Gong Jin Hyang Hydrating Cleansing Foam 180ml, and patch-test it on a small area first.
What is the best THE WHOO skincare routine?
A classic THE WHOO routine follows the Korean order: a cleanser like the THE WHOO Cheongidan Hwahyan Radiant Cleansing Foam 200ml, a toner like the THE WHOO Cheon Gi Dan Hwa Hyun Balacing Toner 150ml, the THE WHOO Bicheop Seft-Growing Essence 50ml, then cream and the THE WHOO Cheongidan Hwahyun Radiance Eye Cream 20ml. In the morning, finish with a sunscreen such as the THE WHOO UV Ultimate Anti-Wrinkle Sun 50ml.
Which THE WHOO sunscreen should I choose?
THE WHOO has several options: the THE WHOO UV Ultimate Anti-Wrinkle Sun 50ml for an anti-aging routine, the THE WHOO Gong Jin Hyang Seol Whitening Tone Up Sun Cushion SPF50+PA++++ to protect and even out skin tone in one step, or the THE WHOO Gong Jin Hyang Soo Sooyeon Vital Hydrating Sun Fluid 60ml for a light, hydrating texture. Browse all sunscreens too.
Does THE WHOO make makeup?
Yes. THE WHOO's makeup line is Gongjinhyang Mi: the THE WHOO Gong Jin Hyang Mi Luxury Lipstick in its gold case, the THE WHOO Gong Jin Hyang Mi Velvet Lip Rouge, the THE WHOO Gong Jin Hyang Luxury BB Cream 45ml and cushions such as the THE WHOO Gong Jin Hyang Mi Luxury Golden Cushion 13g.

The History of Whoo: who is THE WHOO?
THE WHOO is a luxury Korean skincare brand created in 2003 by LG H&H (LG Household & Health Care), one of South Korea's largest beauty groups. For twenty years it was called The History of Whoo, or “The History of 后”. In 2023 the group shortened the name to THE WHOO, while keeping the 后 character on its packaging. From day one, the brand positioned itself as “royal court cosmetics”: its formulas draw on the beauty secrets once used by queens at the Korean royal court. It worked. According to LG H&H, the brand's cumulative net sales passed 20 trillion won in March 2025, making it one of the best-known names in luxury Korean beauty, especially in China and across Asia.
THE WHOO lines and signature ingredients
Each THE WHOO line has its hero ingredient and its goal:
- Bichup: home of the Bichup Self-Generating essence, launched in 2009. It combines three court recipes (Gongjinbidan, Gyeongokbidan and Cheongsimbidan) and has sold over 10 million bottles, according to the group.
- Cheongidan: launched in 2010 and renewed in 2023, it targets radiance and signs of aging; its latest formulas feature the active Chlorogen™.
- Gongjinhyang: the firming line, built around Gong Jin Solution™, which comes from the brand's research on the royal Gongjindan recipe. It branches out into Gongjinhyang Seol (brightening), Gongjinhyang Soo (hydration) and Gongjinhyang Mi (makeup).
- Jinyulhyang: red wild ginseng, from root to leaf, for hydration and fine lines.
- Hwanyu: the high-end wild ginseng line, launched in 2006.
- Cheonyuldan, Royal Regina and Whoo Spa round out the range, with Whoo Spa covering body and hair care.
How to choose THE WHOO skincare for your skin
Start with what you want to improve. For firmness, Gongjinhyang is the most complete line, with the Gongjinhyang Elastic Cream and the Gongjinhyang Elastic Eye Cream. For fine lines and dry skin, try Jinyulhyang and its red wild ginseng, for example the Jin Yul Hyang Anti-Wrinkle Enriching Cream. For dull skin, go for Cheongidan, or the brightening Gongjinhyang Seol branch with the Gong Jin Hyangseol Whitening Jingo Spot for dark spots. If your skin is sensitive, add one new product at a time and patch-test it first. In the morning, don't skip sunscreen: the UV Ultimate Anti-Wrinkle Sun slots easily into an anti-aging routine.
See the full selection on the THE WHOO page, or shop by category: creams, essences, toners, eye care and sunscreens. If you're shopping for mature skin, THE WHOO is a great place to start. And if you love luxury Korean skincare, take a look at Sulwhasoo, another big name in Korean herbal beauty.
What makes THE WHOO different
THE WHOO talks about “royal court skin science”. In practice, its researchers study old court texts and recipes to rediscover herbal combinations, then rework them with the group's modern technology. Think of it as hanbang, Korea's herbal beauty tradition, done the luxury way. The brand sums up its philosophy as balance and harmony between tradition and modern life. The other THE WHOO signature is the look: gold or lacquered bottles, sculpted caps and patterns inspired by royal heritage. Each product feels like a small precious object you'll happily leave out on your vanity. For you, that means rich textures, refined scents and routines designed as a complete ritual rather than a single step.
THE WHOO best-sellers at Ma Petite Coree
At Ma Petite Coree, the most popular THE WHOO picks of the last few months are the Cheongidan Hwahyun Radiance Cream, the Gong Jin Hyang Seol Whitening Tone Up Sun Cushion SPF50+PA++++ and the Cheongidan Hwahyun Radiance Eye Cream. The Bicheop Seft-Growing Essence and the Jinyulhyang Intensive Wrinkle Concentrate complete the top list, alongside the Whoo Spa Body Cream. For makeup, the Essential Lip Glow Balm leads the way.
