HANYUL: frequently asked questions

What is HANYUL?

HANYUL is a Korean skincare brand from the Amorepacific group, launched in 2007. Its philosophy is "balanced Korean beauty", inspired by Korea's seasons and nature. It works with Korean ingredients such as mugwort, yuja, rice and chestnut, sourced from local farms.

Is HANYUL owned by Amorepacific?

Yes. HANYUL belongs to Amorepacific, the Korean group behind Sulwhasoo, Innisfree and Mamonde. HANYUL launched in the United States at Sephora in May 2025.

What is HANYUL's best-known product?

Amorepacific calls the mugwort line HANYUL's bestseller, led by the HANYUL Pure Artemisia Calming Water Cream 55ml. Abroad, the brand also leads with its yuja sleeping mask, the HANYUL Yuja Sleeping Mask 70ml.

Where does HANYUL's mugwort come from?

For its mugwort line, HANYUL says it uses young mugwort leaves from Ganghwa Island, harvested around Dano, a traditional early-summer festival. Its Ssuk-Sica™ complex is at the heart of the HANYUL Pure Artemisia Calming Water Cream 55ml.

Which HANYUL product is best for sensitive skin?

For sensitive skin, start with HANYUL's Artemisia line: the HANYUL Pure Artemisia Calming pH-Balancing Toner 150ml after cleansing, then the HANYUL Pure Artemisia Calming Water Cream 55ml. Always patch-test a new product first. See also our sensitive skin edit.

Which HANYUL product is best for dry skin?

For dry skin, go for HANYUL's Red Rice line, made for hydration and firmness: the HANYUL Red Rice Moisturizing Elasticity Emulsion, then the HANYUL Red Rice Moisture Firming Cream 55ml. To cleanse, the HANYUL Extreme Cream Cleansing Foam 200ml has a creamy texture.

Which HANYUL product works for oily skin or enlarged pores?

HANYUL has two pore lines. The HANYUL Buddleberry Pore Tightening Pad and the HANYUL Buddle Night Clean Exfoliating Pore Pack target oil and texture. The HANYUL Bodunhaengip Pore Fir Serum helps pores look tighter. See also our oily skin edit.

Which HANYUL product helps with dull skin?

HANYUL's Moonlight Yuja line relies on yuja and vitamin C for glow. Use the HANYUL Yuja Vitamin C Brightening Serum 50ml in the morning and the HANYUL Yuja Sleeping Mask 70ml as the last step at night. Finish your morning routine with sunscreen.

What is the difference between HANYUL's Artemisia and Red Rice lines?

At HANYUL, the Artemisia (mugwort) line focuses on soothing sensitive skin. The Red Rice line targets hydration and firmness, so it suits dry skin best. You can layer them: a Pure Artemisia toner, then the HANYUL Red Rice Moisture Firming Cream 55ml.

Which HANYUL products suit mature skin?

For mature skin, HANYUL offers the Baekhwago line, which targets dark spots and firmness, with the HANYUL Baekhwago Gimitanryuk Cream 60ml and the HANYUL Baekhwago Gimitanryuk Eye Cream 25ml. The ginseng Extreme line adds the HANYUL Extreme Emulsion 125ml.

How do I build a simple HANYUL routine?

A simple HANYUL routine: the HANYUL Young Artemisia Smooth Cleansing Oil 200ml at night, a cleansing foam, the Pure Artemisia toner, a serum for your skin's needs and a moisturizer. Once or twice a week at night, add the HANYUL Yuja Sleeping Mask 70ml.

HANYUL skincare: who is behind the brand?

HANYUL (한율) is a Korean skincare brand from Amorepacific, the K-beauty giant that also owns Sulwhasoo, Innisfree and Mamonde. It launched in 2007. Today HANYUL is defined by one idea: "balanced Korean beauty", inspired by Korea's four seasons and its nature. In May 2025, the brand arrived in the United States at Sephora, led by its yuja bestsellers.

HANYUL lines and signature ingredients

The Artemisia line (어린쑥) is the best known. Amorepacific describes it as specialized in soothing sensitive skin. According to the brand, its Ssuk-Sica™ complex is four times more soothing than centella in in-vitro testing. The Red Rice line (빨간쌀) uses red rice for hydration and firmness. The Moonlight Yuja line (달빛유자) relies on yuja from Goheung, a Korean citrus rich in vitamin C, for a brighter complexion. Around these three pillars you'll find Buddle for pores, Bodeunhaengip with peptides, Extreme with ginseng for skin that needs more firmness, Baekhwago for dark spots and firmness, and Nature in Life for hands and lips.

How to choose your HANYUL product

For double cleansing, start with the Young Artemisia Smooth Cleansing Oil, then a foam such as the Young Mugwort Cleansing absorption Pack Foam.

To round out your routine, browse our toners, moisturizers and masks, or discover other Amorepacific brands such as Sulwhasoo and Innisfree. To go further, read our article on HANYUL, mugwort, yuja and red rice.

What makes HANYUL different

HANYUL starts from a simple belief: ingredients you see every day in Korea can become serious skincare. The brand works with mugwort, yuja, rice and chestnut, and it sources them from Korean farms. The mugwort in its signature line comes from Ganghwa Island. According to the brand, it uses young leaves picked around Dano, a traditional early-summer festival, when their soothing effect peaks. HANYUL also borrows from fermentation, a big part of Korean food culture: its in-house Skin Balancer™ is, according to the brand, a postbiotic made from lactobacilli that supports the skin barrier. On top of that, HANYUL products focus on comfortable textures, natural scents and clean packaging with a Korean aesthetic.

HANYUL bestsellers at Ma Petite Coree

At Ma Petite Coree, the Red Rice Moisture Firming Cream and the Pure Artemisia Calming Water Cream have been the most popular picks in recent months. The Yuja Sleeping Mask follows closely, and it's also one of the lead products Amorepacific chose to launch the brand in the US. The Young Artemisia Trouble Mist and the Yuja Vitamin C Brightening Serum round out the top picks. They come from three lines, so it's easy to mix them in one routine: mugwort to calm, red rice to hydrate, yuja to bring back glow. If you're new to the brand, the Pure Artemisia cream is a gentle place to start.
