NewJeans debuted with five members, all very young: the youngest, Hyein, was 14. Here are the key facts so you never mix them up again.

NewJeans was born at ADOR, a label of the HYBE group (home of BTS), under the creative direction of Min Hee-jin. On July 22, 2022, the music video for “Attention” came out without any teaser, a very unusual choice in K-pop. The next day came “Hype Boy”, then the first EP New Jeans on August 1.
Things moved very fast: “Ditto” and “OMG” in late 2022 and early 2023, then summer 2023 with the EP Get Up and “Super Shy”, boosted by a collaboration with the Powerpuff Girls (from the cartoon The Powerpuff Girls). These little characters still appear today on a good part of the NewJeans merch.
In 2024, the group released “How Sweet”, then debuted in Japan with “Supernatural”, illustrated by the artist Takashi Murakami. Murakami's smiling flowers became the emblem of this era, and you'll find them on the NewJeans x Murakami keychain.
The name “NewJeans” plays on two meanings: a new pair of jeans, which you wear every day without getting tired of it, and “new genes”, a new generation.
The split with ADOR, explained simply
It all started with a conflict between HYBE and Min Hee-jin, who left ADOR's management in 2024. The members took her side and, at the end of November 2024, announced that they were ending their contract. ADOR disputed it, and the case went to court.

- Early 2025They present themselves under a new name, NJZ.
- March 2025The court blocks their independent activities. After a final concert in Hong Kong, they announce a break.
- October 30, 2025The court rules in favor of ADOR: the contracts remain valid until 2029.
- November 2025Haerin and Hyein return to ADOR.
- December 2025Hanni returns. ADOR announces the end of Danielle's contract. Talks continue with Minji.
Where does NewJeans stand in 2026?
On July 22, 2026, for the group's fourth anniversary, ADOR published the series “2026 Summer of NewJeans”: photos and videos of Minji, Hanni, Haerin and Hyein, together in official ADOR content for the first time since 2024. For the Bunnies, it's the long-awaited signal.
But watch out for rumors: as of mid-October 2026, no album or comeback date has been officially announced, and Minji's return isn't signed yet. As soon as an album comes out, we'll open pre-orders: keep an eye on the K-pop pre-orders.

How many members are in NewJeans?
NewJeans debuted with 5 members: Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin and Hyein. Since late 2025, Danielle is no longer under contract with ADOR. In July 2026, the group reappeared as four.
Did Danielle leave NewJeans?
ADOR announced the end of her contract on December 29, 2025. The case is still before the courts.
When is the next NewJeans album coming out?
No date has been announced yet. The last song released so far is “Supernatural”, from June 2024.
What does NJZ mean?
It's the name the members used in early 2025, during their conflict with ADOR. The group's official name remains NewJeans.
What are NewJeans fans called?
Bunnies, a reference to Tokki, the group's rabbit mascot (“tokki” means rabbit in Korean).
