LILYBYRED: the story of the brand
LILYBYRED was born in April 2017 in South Korea. It was launched by Hangang Intertrade (also called MP Hangang), a beauty company that until then imported Japanese brands like Kiss Me and Canmake. With LILYBYRED, it created its own makeup brand, designed for young women aged 18 to 23.
It started with the eyes: the first product highlighted at launch was the Starry Eyes 9 to 9 eyeliner, a gel pencil. Lips and complexion came next, notably with the first tints of the Liar family. Today the name “9 to 9” appears in several of the brand’s eyeliner and mascara ranges.
LILYBYRED first launched online, then entered Olive Young and Korean beauty stores. In 2018, it was also available in the Lotte and Shilla duty-free shops. In 2019, two years after its launch, the brand announced it had passed 2 million products sold.
Since then, it has kept expanding: in Japan, you’ll find it at Don Quijote or Plaza, and in May 2024, its Mix Tape edition took first place in Olive Young’s online sales, across all categories. As of mid-October 2026, the brand’s official website says it is managed by the company DYD (디와이디), based in Goyang, near Seoul.
The LILYBYRED philosophy: color to play with
On its website, LILYBYRED presents itself as a makeup brand that reveals your different sides through color, from simple everyday moments to special occasions. It sums up its world in three moods:
- LILY, “being yourself, always”: comfortable, natural makeup.
- CHEEKY, “full of mischief”: cheerful, cute looks for every day.

This playful spirit shows everywhere: in the heart-shaped packaging, in the treat-themed editions (gummy, s’more, sorbet) and in the shade names. Starry Eyes 9 to 9: the original gel eyeliner
This is the product the brand launched with in 2017. The Starry Eyes 9 to 9 Gel Eyeliner is a gel pencil with a soft texture, in classic shades (black, browns) and soft colors like rose gold or coral. Liar tints: one family, several finishes
The Liar family brings together several tints, each with its own effect. The Juicy Liar Water Tint is a water tint: the official website presents it as the brand’s “original water tint”.
