Acids are considered a type of chemical exfoliant, as opposed to grain exfoliants to remove dead skin cells.

The term “acid” sounds harsh while its benefits are more than beneficial for the skin. Korean cosmetology is no exception in its use but we can quickly get lost among all the names and their effects on the skin. Acids are considered a kind of chemical exfoliant, as opposed to grain exfoliants. How? They break the bonds between dead cells accumulated on the skin's surface, causing them to detach and free the epidermis. Unexfoliated skin can quickly become suffocated, the complexion dulls, the skin becomes rough and coarse but above all can become more prone to acne. Ma Petite Corée has prepared this little guide to help you better understand these exfoliating acids!

🍋 AHA (ALPHA HYDROXY ACIDS)

Or fruit acids, it is a group that includes several types of acids each with different origins. Indeed, they are not all extracted from fruits as their generic name indicates but from fermented milk, sugarcane like glycolic acid. These acids have an effect on the skin's surface and are water-soluble to act on skin texture and restore its natural glow; notably by reducing brown spots. Glycolic acid is the most effective and powerful thanks to its very small size which allows it to exfoliate more deeply into the epidermis. In addition to known benefits, this acid slightly affects sebum production.

Recommended for normal to dry skin
Concern: Hyperpigmentation

🍋 BHA (Beta Hydroxy ACIDS)

If we say salicylic acid? Yes, it is indeed a BHA whose name is not unknown! Unlike AHA, these acids are liposoluble, so they dissolve in an oily substance. In addition to exfoliating the surface like AHA, these acids penetrate inside the pores to act on them. BHA clean and exfoliate clogged pores while helping regulate sebum production. These acids act on imperfections like comedones or other acne pimples by dissolving them, thus reducing their appearance thanks to their anti-inflammatory properties. Its soothing property also acts on redness to even out the complexion.

Recommended for combination to oily skin
Concern: Acne, pores, blackheads, and redness

🍋 LHA (Capryloyl Salicylic ACID)

It is a derivative of BHA, salicylic acid. It acts on the skin both on its upper and inner layers. Its benefits exfoliate dead cells like AHA and BHA but also the excess sebum that clogs pores. LHA acid regulates sebum production to keep the skin clean. It acts on acne and dislodges blackheads.

Recommended for combination to oily skin
Concern: Acne, pores, blackheads
