The Korean routine in 10 steps explained

K-beauty, or Korean beauty, has established itself in recent years as a true revolution in the world of skincare. One of its particularities lies in a meticulous routine, often mentioned in 10 steps. But what do these steps hide? Let's demystify this ten-step routine together.

1. Oil cleansing
The principle of double cleansing starts with this first step, which consists of using an oil cleanser to remove oil-soluble impurities, such as makeup, sunscreen, and pollution. Gently massage on dry face, then rinse.

2. Water-based cleansing
The second phase of double cleansing. Use a water-based cleanser to remove oil residues and other water-soluble impurities. This two-step cleansing ensures perfectly clean skin.

3. Exfoliant
To be used 1 to 2 times a week, the exfoliant helps remove dead skin cells, unclog pores, and promote cell renewal. You can choose chemical or mechanical exfoliants depending on your preference and skin type.

4. Toner
Unlike Western toners which can be astringent, Korean toners hydrate, balance the skin's pH, and prepare the skin to better absorb the following steps.

5. Essence
A hybrid between a toner and a serum, the essence deeply hydrates the skin while promoting cell regeneration.

6. Serum & ampoules
More concentrated than essences, serums and ampoules target specific skin concerns such as spots, wrinkles, or dehydration.

7. Sheet mask
The sheet mask is a staple of K-beauty. To be used once or twice a week, it offers deep hydration and targeted active ingredients to your skin.

8. Eye contour
The skin around your eyes is delicate and requires specific care. Gently apply an eye cream to hydrate and fight the signs of aging.

9. Moisturizer
Whatever your skin type, hydration is essential. A good moisturizer will seal in all the benefits of the previous steps while hydrating the skin.

10. Sun protection
The last, but certainly not least step: sun protection. Since UV rays are the main cause of premature aging, it is essential to apply sunscreen every morning.

The Korean skincare routine may seem long and tedious, but each step is important. It is designed to maximize the effectiveness of the products and offer your skin the best care. If ten steps seem too much for you, remember that the essential thing is to listen to your skin and adjust your routine according to its needs. You can incorporate a few steps from this routine into yours and observe the positive changes on your skin.
