The 10-step Korean routine explained

K-beauty, or Korean beauty, has emerged in recent years as a true revolution in the world of skin care. One of its particularities lies in a meticulous routine, often mentioned in 10 steps. But what are these steps hiding? Let’s demystify this routine together in ten steps.

1. Oil cleaning
The principle of double cleansing begins with this first step, which involves using a cleansing oil to remove oil-soluble impurities, like makeup, sunscreen, and pollution. Massage gently onto dry face, then rinse.

2. Water-based cleaning
The second phase of the double cleansing. Use a water-based cleaner to remove oil residue and other water-soluble impurities. This two-step cleansing ensures perfectly clean skin.

3. Exfoliant
Use 1-2 times a week, the exfoliator helps slough off dead skin cells, unclog pores and promote cell turnover. You can opt for chemical or mechanical exfoliants depending on your preference and skin type.

4. Toner
Unlike Western toners which can be astringent, Korean toners hydrate, balance the pH of the skin and prepare the skin to better absorb the next steps.

5. Essence
A hybrid between a toner and a serum, the essence deeply hydrates the skin while promoting cell regeneration.

6. Serum & vials
More concentrated than essences, serums and ampoules target specific skin concerns like spots, wrinkles or dehydration.

7. Sheet mask
The sheet mask is a K-beauty staple. Use once or twice a week, it delivers deep hydration and targeted actives to your skin.

8. Eye contour
The skin around your eyes is delicate and requires specific care. Gently apply eye cream to moisturize and combat signs of aging.

9. Moisturizer
Whatever your skin type, hydration is essential. A good moisturizer will seal in all the goodness from the previous steps while hydrating the skin.

10. Sun protection
Last, but certainly not the least of the steps: sun protection. Since UV rays are the main culprits of premature aging, it is essential to apply sunscreen every morning.

The Korean skincare routine may seem long and tedious, but every step matters. It is designed to maximize the effectiveness of products and provide your skin with the best care. If ten steps seems too much for you, remember that the key is to listen to your skin and adjust your routine as needed. You can incorporate a few steps from this routine into your own and see the positive changes in your skin.
